Ryleigh's hospital birth in Destin, FL
I still remember my best friend telling me she was pregnant with her second baby after she ran a 10k mudrun. I couldn’t believe it. We were so excited and plan everything about her birth. We just knew this birth (being her second) would be super quick….
Well — we were mistaken. January 14, 2020 — It was a chilly night watching football and I got the call. “water broke. going to the hospital” CLICK. Yepp… GO TIME.
We got to Sacred Heart on the Emerald Coast’s Family Birth Place just 30 minutes later— Haley and Mike got stopped by a cop and we all had a big laugh. Once Haley was checked in and things settled down.. nothing was happening. This super quick birth that we planned was no where to be found. All night we walked the halls and bounced on the ball and waited for her contractions to pick up.
Finally it was decided maybe some pit would help things along. Haley labored all day and finally decided and epidural was necessary! after 22 hours of labor Mike, Haley’s mom and I decided we’d grab some dinner while Haley took a little nap.
Just as we were finishing we got the call — It’s time.
We raced back up to the room in time for some “practice” pushes which very quickly turned in to REAL pushes. Since she had such a good epidural her nurse asked her to quit pushing until Dr Whitlock made it in! Leaving her hand ready to catch baby if Haley so much as sneezed! Not long later the OB walked in and Haley gave one massive push and there she was! Beautiful Ryleigh. She quickly stole all of our hearts with her peaceful and sweet demeanor.
